Engraved Scalloped Wooden Cutting Board

Brevis descriptio producti

1. A Wavy Border Instead Of A Straight One

The outline is cut as a run of rounded lobes rather than a clean rectangle, so this wooden cutting board reads as a decorative piece before anything is put on it. Each lobe is sanded by hand after cutting, because a routed scallop leaves a sharp shoulder that catches a cloth and feels unfinished in the hand. The run is continuous, with no flat join where a corner would normally sit.

2. An Engraved Medallion In One Corner

4. Magnitudo, Spissitudo Et Perfectio

Size is made to order, so the same pattern can go on a small cheese board or a wide serving platter, and thickness is quoted with each drawing. The face is sanded fine and finished so beetroot and onion juice wipe away instead of staining the soft grain, and the warm honey brown tone with its pale stripe is left as the timber runs, not stained to a flat colour.

5. Cheese, Charcuterie And Table Service

Turned pattern side up, the cutting board holds a cheese course, cured meat, grapes and crackers, and the scalloped edge gives a hand something to grip when it is passed down a table. The engraved corner acts as a small mark of quality in photographs, which is why an engraved cutting board sells into gift shops and wedding lists as readily as into kitchens.

6. Weddings, Gifting And Retail

Housewarming and wedding orders usually ask for a name or a date burned beside the medallion, and the board packs as a single piece so it can ship straight to a customer without a second carton. Shops hang an engraved cutting board by the hole at eye level, where the pattern sells the piece before the price tag does.

7. Cura, Oleum, Et Impacatio

Wash by hand with a little soap, rinse and dry the board on edge so air reaches both faces, and never leave it soaking or put it in a dishwasher. A coat of mineral oil every few weeks keeps the engraved lines from drying pale against the face, and storing the board flat or on edge prevents one end from drying faster than the other. Each board is wrapped on its own with a paper sleeve and corner protection, one piece to a package.

8. Emblemata, Magnitudo et Venditio in Magnitudine

A logo can be laser engraved on the reverse, or set small beside the medallion, and the size, the border pattern and the amount of engraving are all made to a drawing, which is what a custom cutting board order usually turns on. Minimum order is 200 pieces, samples take 5 to 7 days and bulk runs ship in 25 to 30 days.
